Xalapa

Dye Transfer Prints

Xalapa is a farm in Kentucky that I used to visit as a youngster. The farm has changed very little, so it was possible for me to photograph the farm as I perceived it as a child. I did this by using a portrait lens rather than a wide-angle lens. This gave me a viewpoint that singled out separate vantages rather than large panoramas, the way I remembered first encountering the farm with a child’s vision.

Xalapa is an edition of ten numbered portfolios. Each portfolio contains a page of contents, an introduction, two poems, and twenty-four signed and titled dye-transfer prints. The 26 X 22 X 5 portfolio cases are constructed of mansonia walnut. The booklets are printed with archival inks on handmade paper.
